“With 88 lots, valued between £100 and £50,000 the “Guadalajara” Collection of 1866-68 Provisional issues from the State of Guadalajara, assembled by a prominent philatelist, is one of the finest collections formed of these fascinating issues. Most lots boasting an impressive Provenance and almost all with MEPSI Certificates, this collection will be a valued reference for collectors for many years to come.
A highlight of the sale is lot 1035 an 1867 (22 May) entire letter from Colima to Zamora, bearing First Printing Serrated roulette 1r. on blue quadrille paper, 2r. on green quadrille paper and 4r. on white wove paper. The stamps applied and cancelled in transit. The only recorded cover bearing the 4r. serrate roulette and generally considered to be one of the most important items of Mexican philately.”
